Problem :
Jason came to the Framer community looking for someone to rescue a stalled project. The original designer had walked away mid-build and left the site unfinished, with no clear path to launch. For a BAFTA award-winning editor whose reputation lives on how his work is presented, an incomplete site simply was not an option — he needed someone to pick it up and carry it across the finish line.
Solution :
I took the project over and rebuilt it on a foundation that could actually be finished and maintained.
Full Layout Rebuild: Rather than untangle the inherited structure, I rebuilt the layout from the ground up in Framer — a clean, responsive foundation that was faster to finish and far easier to maintain going forward.
Video Player Optimization: I engineered the Vimeo player around the way a reel actually gets watched — fast load times, play-on-hover previews, and filterable clips so visitors can jump straight to the work that matters to them.
Tooling & Testing: I leaned on Framer's AI agents and Claude to work through the player logic, and even purchased a premium custom player component to benchmark my own solution against before committing to the final approach.
Challenge :
There were two real hurdles on this build.
The first was inherited: the layout structure left behind by the previous designer was convoluted enough that repairing it would have taken longer than replacing it. Making the call to rebuild meant re-establishing the entire foundation from scratch while staying faithful to the direction Jason already had in mind — and he was genuinely happy with where it landed.
The second was the video experience. This is an editor's portfolio, so the reel is the product. Getting the Vimeo player to behave took serious iteration: the clips needed to load fast, preview on hover without stutter, and filter cleanly by category. Balancing all three against page performance was the most demanding part of the project.
Summary :
What started as an abandoned, half-finished build is now a launched, fully responsive site that does justice to Jason's body of work. The layout was rebuilt from scratch on a maintainable foundation, and the reel experience — fast, hover-previewed, filterable — puts his editing front and centre instead of making visitors wait for it.
